Kenneth Eugene "Kenny" Richards, age 98 of Atwater, passed away Friday, March 27, 2015, at Robinson Memorial Hospital.

He was born June 23, 1916, in Charlestown, Ohio, to parents William "Bill" and Pearl (Burt) Richards. On August 24, 1935, Kenny married Loreta (Burger) Richards, and the couple has celebrated 79 years of marriage. Kenneth Eugene "Kenny" Richards, age 98 of Atwater, passed away Friday, March 27, 2015, at Robinson Memorial Hospital.

He was born June 23, 1916, in Charlestown, Ohio, to parents William "Bill" and Pearl (Burt) Richards. On August 24, 1935, Kenny married Loreta (Burger) Richards, and the couple has celebrated 79 years of marriage. Kenny is also survived by daughters: Dorothy (Robert) Bryte of Atwater and Donna (John) Hollendonner of Atwater; grandchildren: Kenneth Bryte of Rootstown, Beverly Marsh of Randolph, and Darla Carver of Akron; great-grandchildren: Jennifer Scarborough of Florida, Kendall Bryte of Akron, Bradley Marsh of Sebring; great-great-grandson Hunter Marsh; step-grandchildren: Donald Hollendonner of New York and Scott Hollendonner of Randolph; brother Clifford Richards of Alabama, as well as many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his cat "Sandy", who followed him everywhere he went.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Walter Richards.

He learned to operate a bulldozer at the Peterson Coal Company in Deerfield where he worked for several years. Mr. Richards retired from Ruhlin Construction as a crane operator. He became a 50 year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 18A on August 3, 2013.

Kenneth and Loreta have lived in the same home in Atwater for 72 years, where they also operated the family farm. Kenny liked farming and enjoyed working with his tractors. In his later years, he rebuilt numerous tractors with his grandson. Kenny enjoyed camping with his family and traveling across the United States with his 5th wheeler.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to the Atwater Firemen's Association, 6570 Waterloo Rd., Atwater, OH 44201, c/o Tommy ''' or - the Portage Animal Protective League. The family would like to thank everyone at Robinson Visiting Nurse and Hospice, especially the nurses and the sitters for all of their help while Kenneth was at the hospital.
